I trust Jill implicitly! I count on Jill to make great independent decisions in my absence. Therefore, my "M O" is to let Jill know what I'd like and then leave town.
On my first home repair project, I requested recessed lights in my office and a new exterior light over my front door and left for Omaha. Jill discovered that the ceiling was too shallow for recessed lights and picked out spotlights on a flexible "track". It looks fabulous, very up-to-date, clean and really lights up the counter and computer area!
A front porch light fixture was mission impossible. The area over my front door left Jill with about 1/4 inch clearance between the top of the screen door and the bare light bulb, but she was able to find an opaque glass fixture that fit AND looks great. WOW on both counts.
The bathroom remodel (see before and after photos) was a huge project that I dreaded for many years. Jill accompanied and advised me regarding bath surround materials, flooring, fixtures, molding, paint and a million other things. Her suggestions were creative and helpful. Decisions were made, materials purchased. Jill prepped in advance and started work as I drove away.
It was no surprise that Jill did all the professional things necessary to complete the project. She did a tremendous amount of all types of work herself, including measuring, demolition, plumbing ( and improved the existing plumbing by installing copper between the tub/shower connection and where the re-pipe left off ), electrical work, texturing/resurfacing, molding, and painting walls and the existing cabinet. She orchestrated, managed, and supervised the work that required outside contractors. And, the many extras that she did impressed me!
On short notice Jill:
- Left me with a working tub and toilet for the few days I unexpectedly needed to be back in the house.
- Washed dishes and cleaned the sink and counter surfaces so I wouldn't have to clean before I could eat.
- Stacked her tools and materials neatly, compactly, and out of the way. (Visitors even remarked at this!) and she continued to do so on a daily basis as the work wound down and I was back in the house.
While waiting for installers or for materials to set / dry / cure Jill:
- repaired the hall light (bulb broken off in fixture)
- refinished the wood floor between the bathroom and bedroom
- replaced the furnace filter
- selected vanity handles that are PERFECT and painted the surrounding rings
- washed the bathroom wastebasket
- disposed of debris via recycling and give-away
- took away all other haz-mat recycling that I had accumulated
- discovered a small leak at the water shut-off valve and called EBMUD, who replaced it for free
When the work was essentially complete, Jill allowed me an opportunity to "live in it for awhile" and was willing to remove, reinstall, and repaint to suit me. I love the finished room. And, a project I've dreaded for 20 years was fast, painless, livable, and fun!
The family can count themselves lucky that we didn't have Christmas dinner in our new and unusual bathroom. It's the best looking room in the house!
